About Us
Kaden and Emily Roush have been raising pigs for close to 10 years (Kaden more of that than Emily) near Lebanon, Kansas, who's claim to fame is the Geographical Center of the Continental United States. Although this venture isn't what started Kaden's love of hogs, an opportunity came to him that would make his dream of raising pigs a way of life. While away at college, Kaden planned what is now R Family Farms from the ground up, and after both Kaden and Emily graduated from K-State, we came back to Lebanon to build the farm with our own two hands. Progress started on the hog farm starting in the fall of 2015 and was completed early 2016. The hog farm is built to meet every standard of being a GAP Step 3 farm which means the main focus is having outdoor access ( here's some info on GAP ratings http://www.globalanimalpartnership.org/5-step-animal-welfare-rating-program ). The pigs are fed a nutritious, balanced ration of milo, soybean meal (which may contain GMOs, we have no control over this), and vitamins and minerals! They can roam outside in their pens, or lay inside their hoop barns that are constantly bedded with fresh straw.
Kaden and Emily are the only two that care for the pigs, so we always know what is going on and the expert level of care that the pigs are receiving. If you ever have any questions on how the pigs are raised, we keep a very active Facebook page where we explain how the pigs are raised and share recipes and pictures of the pigs as they grow! Live videos are Emily's specialty, so be ready for cute baby pig videos every month! Find the page at www.facebook.com/RFamilyFarms
The Berkshire breed is the main breed focus on the farm, and all of the meat you will be receiving from R Family Farms will be full Berkshire! If you have not had Berkshire meat, you are missing out on a very tasty experience. Here's a link to the American Berkshire Association that explains why Berkshire meat is juicier and more flavorful than your regular pork!

We believe strongly in giving back to the community, and are very active in the Smith County, Kansas area, along with on a state wide level with the Kansas Pork Association. We work hard and put in many hours to make our community a better place to live.
We are very excited to be providing pork to you and feeding your family. It is a very important job, and it's one that isn't taken lightly, which is why we offer complete transparency with our pigs and meat. We just want to say thank you for helping support our small family farm, and keeping our dreams alive!
Practices
Pigs have constant outdoor access after two weeks of age. No antibiotics are fed to pigs, and pigs only receive antiobiotic intervention if sick or hurt and the treatment is necessary. The pigs are fed a nutritious, balanced ration of milo, soybean meal (which may contain GMOs, we have no control over this), and vitamins and minerals!
